In June 2022 the federal government announced a Regional Energy and Resource Table to focus on achieving a net zero economy and create benefits to regional economies.

The goal is to prioritize economic growth for a low carbon future in energy, electricity, mining, forestry, and clean technology sectors. In the fall of 2022 Natural Resources Canada approached the First Nations Forestry Council and the First Nations Energy and Mining Council to assist in facilitating input and meetings with First Nations in British Columbia. According to Natural Resources Canada, this opportunity is a multi-year process which will align with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

In December 2022 FNEMC provided initial feedback and we set an online meeting for May 2nd to share these draft priorities with all First Nations in British Columbia.
